The Ondo state police command has arrested one Bankole Oginni, a 45-year-old footballer, for allegedly killing his ex-lover.

Confirming the incident on Sunday, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, Ondo state police spokesperson, said Oginni invited the 45-year-old victim to his house in the Oke-Aro area of Akure and doused her with hot water.

According to the police spokesperson, the unnamed victim was tied with a rope while a knife and sack were found beside her.

“A lady reported at the station that her mother’s ex-lover, Bankole Oginni, called and invited her over to his place at the Oke Aro area of Akure and after she left for his house, she did not return and her phone was switched off,” Odunlami-Omisanya said.

“She traced her mother to the house, only to find her lifeless body in the room of the ex-lover, her legs and hands tied and her body opened with intestines removed.

“The suspect is in custody while the body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue. The suspect is 45 and claimed he is a footballer.”

She added that the suspect will be charged in court after the completion of an investigation.
