Musiliu Akinsanya, chairman of the Lagos state parks management committee, has unveiled a bar code system in Lagos garages to ensure the safety of travellers.

In a statement released on Friday, Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, said the bar code system will improve the safety of commuters and discourage kidnapping.

“The transport management in Lagos will not put the lives of Lagosians in jeopardy. The incidence of kidnapping is rampant in some parts of the country and it is the proactiveness of the stakeholders in the transport sector of Lagos that birthed the bar code introduction,” he said.

“The chairmen of each park and garage whose drivers are caught putting the lives and properties of Lagosians at risk will be severely dealt with.”

Speaking on how the bar code works, Isaiah Arowolo, an official of Dotmatech Technology Ltd, said over 20,000 vehicles have already been captured.

He said each vehicle will have a unique bar code that people would be expected to scan before boarding, adding that upon scanning, it will display the number of the vehicle, details of the driver, and the unit from which the vehicle is operating.

Arowolo said with such information, kidnapping and theft would be discouraged.

He added that the code would also help in the tracking of misplaced or forgotten items.
