Naija Times, an online newspaper, has launched its maiden edition of ‘Diaspora Conversations’.

With the theme ‘Nigeria’s security challenges and the way forward’, the event is billed to hold on Saturday, April 17.

In a statement by Jahman Anikulapo, its editorial editor, selected speakers are expected to provide insight into the challenging security situation in Nigeria.

The speakers include Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman; Reuben Abati, Arise TV anchor; Abiodun Role, security consultant; Ikenna Nwosu, public policy analyst, and Toju Ogbe, communications strategist.

Ehi Braimah, Naija Times publisher, was quoted as saying the idea behind the event is to create a platform to engage “our brothers and sisters in the diaspora so that they can have a voice as we discuss the task of nation-building”.

“Nigerians in the diaspora are an important demography for Naija Times and it explains why we have Diaspora News and Diaspora File sections,” Braimah said.

“Primary objectives of the conversations are to engage Nigerians in the diaspora on issues that affect us; find a common ground and make recommendations to the government; promote patriotism amongst this demography and publish a summary of each conference on Naija Times website for the benefit of our readers.

“Apart from security challenges, subsequent themes of the conference will focus on topics that include consular services, economic migration, diaspora remittances, investment opportunities, population growth, public health crisis, social capital, natural resources, tourism potential, and development of infrastructure and so on.

“The conference is planned to hold every other month with speakers drawn from Nigeria and our diasporan community.”

Naija Times was launched in September 2020. The online newspaper spotlights issues relating to development communications.
