Two persons, including a naval officer, were shot dead on Okene-Lokoja road in Kogi state, on Thursday.

Ayuba Ede, the state commissioner of police, confirmed the development in Lokoja, the Kogi capital.

According to him, the officer and a woman were travelling in a Toyota Sienna car when they were shot by yet-to-be-identified gunmen around 6pm.

While the naval officer was in uniform, the woman was in mufti and they both died on the spot.

Ede, who spoke to NAN over the phone, didn’t give further details but noted that investigation had commenced and officers had arrived the scene of the incident.

“Yes, I heard about it and I have dispatched my men there to bring me the details of how and when it happened,” he said.

The incident comes four days after a military officer was shot dead on the same route.

G.S.M. Abubakar, an army captain, was shot dead by unknown gunmen on the Okene-Lokoja road on July 5.

Abubakar was travelling in his Honda car with his wife and mother when the gunmen opened fire on them.

He died on the spot.
