Naval officers ‘stab’ policeman to death during traffic altercation in Lagos

A police officer attached to the Lagos command has been stabbed to death during an altercation with some naval officers at the satellite area of the state.

The incident was said to have occurred on Saturday evening.

The deceased police officer identified as Abion Hezikel, an assistant superintendent of police, was said to have stopped two motorcycles conveying two passengers each.

It was gathered that the motorcyclists ignored the directive of the police officer while he insisted that the passengers should identify themselves.

The directive of the police resulted in the altercation and the naval officers who were the passengers on mufti were said to have allegedly brought out jackknives to fight.

The police officer was allegedly stabbed by the naval officers and he succumbed to death.

According to reports, passers-by and other police officers who were present at the scene sustained injuries during the fracas.

Benjamin Hundeyin, Lagos police spokesperson, told TheCable on Monday that the two naval officers have been arrested.

This is not the first time military personnel and police officers would clash on the road in Lagos.

In August, some soldiers attached to Ojo military cantonment beat a police inspector identified as Monday Orube to death after an argument over traffic right of way in Lagos.
