The comments of Ibrahim Babangida, former head of state, and former President Goodluck Jonathan on the state of the nation dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers. Issues bordering on economy and insecurity also made the headlines.

Daily Independent reports that civil servants and contractors are currently facing hard times owing to the dwindling revenue of state and federal governments. The newspaper says suspected herdsmen killed three members of a family in Benue state.

Nigerian Tribune reports that Ibrahim Babangida asked the federal government to provide modern weapons for soldiers. The newspaper says there is blackout in Kaduna state over the strike by labour unions.

The PUNCH says southern governors are expected to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari after his trip to France. Jonathan faulted the separate meetings of southern and northern governors, the newspaper reports.

The Nation reports that Jonathan aligned with the concerns of southern governors on the state of the nation. The newspaper says the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is planning to build a rice pyramid in Ekiti state.

The Daily Times says Babangida and Jonathan tasked Buhari and governors on good governance. Three policemen were killed as gunmen burnt a police station in Delta state, the newspaper reports.

The Guardian says N120 billion petrol subsidy is set to double as the CBN signals a subtle harmonisation of exchange rates. The newspaper reports that experts said 76.2 million Nigerians are hypertensive but only 23 million on treatment.
