Newspaper Headlines: Consumers groan as price of cooking gas soars

The summoning of six chief judges by Ibrahim Muhammad, chief justice of Nigeria (CJN), over conflicting judgments dominated the headlines of Nigerian newspapers.

Daily Sun reports that confusion trailed the alleged sealing of Plateau assembly by persons believed to be security operatives. The newspaper says Nigerians are groaning as cooking gas price hits N7,000 per 12.5kg.

Daily Independent reports that the stakeholders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have moved to zone the party’s chairmanship position to the north. The newspaper says inflation and high prices of food items have overshadowed economic growth in the second quarter of 2021.

The Guardian says civil society organisations tackled the Edo state government over a planned move to restrict movement of those who have not received COVID-19 vaccine. The newspaper reports that the chief justice of Nigeria summoned six chief judges over conflicting orders.
