Newspaper Headlines: DCP Kyari’s brother received N279m from criminal suspects, says police report

The lingering petrol scarcity in many parts of the country dominated the headlines of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch says a police report revealed that the brother of Abba Kyari, the suspended deputy commissioner of police, received N279 million from Hushpuppi and other members of the cyber fraud syndicate. The newspaper reports that the convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is uncertain as President Muhammadu Buhari ignored a meeting with governors to travel to Belgium.

The Nation says the meeting on the APC national convention between governors and Buhari failed to take place. The newspaper reports that the police command in Osun has blamed Rauf Aregbesola, minister of interior, for the recent mayhem in the state.

Daily Trust reports that petrol now sells for N600 per litre in Abuja amid scarcity of the product. The newspaper says Buhari has asked the national assembly to remove their N887 billion projects from the 2022 budget.

Daily Independent says gunmen killed three police officers at a checkpoint in Ebonyi state. The newspaper reports that Nigeria’s inflation rate dropped to 15.60 percent in January.

 

The Guardian reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had secured the final forfeiture of 24 properties “linked to a top military officer”. The newspaper says five children have been abducted from their homes in Rivers state.
