Newspaper Headlines: Death toll in Katsina bandits attack rises to 71

Reports on the naira scarcity and issues about the forthcoming elections dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that President Muhammadu Buhari is under pressure to end the current fuel and currency scarcity, which have subjected Nigerians to hardship. The newspaper says the collection of permanent voter cards (PVCs) ended on Sunday with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) silent on the possibility of further extending the exercise.
Daily Independent says President Buhari has asked INEC not to adjust the timetable for the elections. The newspaper reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of mopping new naira notes for vote-buying.
THISDAY reports that Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has asked Nigerians to exercise patience with the federal government and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on the circulation of the new naira notes. The newspaper says the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) disclosed that 64.42 million litres of petrol were released to the public daily, last week.
The Guardian says the lingering petrol and naira scarcity have depleted productivity and worsened inflation. The newspaper reports that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has alleged a plan to attack Atiku Abubakar, PDP presidential candidate, in the south-east zone of the country.
Daily Trust reports that at least 71 people have been buried after bandits attacked some communities in the Gwanki and Gidan Damo of Kankara LGA of Katsina state. The newspaper says Femi Gbajabiamila, speaker of the house of representatives, said the house may reconvene before elections if the naira scarcity is not addressed.
