Newspaper Headlines: APC asks presidential hopefuls to sign ‘withdrawal letter’

Reports pertaining to the primaries of political parties dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that southern leaders have warned that multiple presidential hopefuls from the region threaten the chances of producing a southern president. The newspaper says the federal government has directed MTN and Mafab to begin the rollout of 5G technology services in August.

The Nation says Bola Tinubu, presidential hopeful of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said the presence of many presidential hopefuls is a good sign for democracy. The newspaper reports that 73.8 million bank accounts are not linked with bank verification numbers (BVN).

Daily Independent says Antonio Guterres, the United Nations secretary-general, has advised the federal government on how to eliminate terrorism in the northern part of the country. Nigerian Tribune says the APC has extended sale of nomination forms for all elective positions while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed its LG congresses. The newspaper reports that two persons were killed in an explosion at an oil facility in Imo state.

The Guardian says there is growing concern in the APC over a ‘letter of withdrawal’ attached to nomination forms sold to hopefuls. The newspaper reports that the house of representatives has approved anti-terrorism and money laundering bills.
