Reports on the inaugural speech of President Bola Tinubu dominate the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers today.
The Punch reports that Tinubu has taken the oath of office as the 16th President of the Nigeria. The newspaper says the federal government is targeting a $4 billion revenue from the ongoing concession of the Abuja, Lagos, and Kano airports.
The Guardian reports that Tinubu has announced an end to the regime of payment of subsidy on petrol, and hinted at the need for a “thorough house cleaning” in the monetary policy. The newspaper says Nasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna, has accused the immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari of mishandling terrorism during his administration.
Daily Independent reports that controversy has continued to trail the last minute activities of Hadi Sirika, former minister of aviation, especially the N85.42 billion expended on the national carrier project in seven years.
The Nation reports that experts have backed Tinubu’s plan to stop payment of petrol subsidy. The newspaper says the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has called for a probe of the claim of 60 million litres daily consumption of petrol.
Nigerian Tribune reports that queues in filling stations resurfaced in many parts of the country after Tinubu announced the end of petrol subsidy. The newspaper says Raymond Dokpesi, founder of DAAR Communications, is dead.
