Newspaper Headlines: NDLEA traces N4.2bn to accounts of DCP Kyari, co-accused

The leadership crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of its national convention appeared on the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that Mai Mala Buni, governor of Yobe, may still head the caretaker committee of the APC amid the crisis rocking the party. The newspaper says the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has traced N4.2 billion to the bank accounts of Abba Kyari, suspended deputy commissioner of police, and other arrested officers.

The Nation reports that President Muhammadu Buhari may drop his choice of Abdullahi Adamu, the senator representing Nasarawa west, as his preferred candidate for the APC national chairman. The newspaper says manufacturers are seeking the intervention of the federal government on the recent rise in the price of diesel.

The Nigerian Tribune says Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has warned that Nigeria may experience a worsening food crisis owing to the owing Russia-Ukraine war. The newspaper says stakeholders have warned the federal government to prevent the planned indefinite strike of members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Daily Independent says power generating companies have attributed the poor electricity supply in the country to inefficient grid management. The Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) said mining firms in the country owe the federal government N2.76 billion.

The Guardian reports that Nigerian businesses may have lost about $232 billion (N96.4 trillion) in the past eight years owing to epileptic power supply. Kayode Fayemi, governor of Ekiti, said the country’s politics reeks of bigotry and tribalism, the newspaper says.
