Newspaper Headlines: PDP BoT may ask Ayu to step down for peace to reign

The reaction of Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to the concerns about his health dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch says aggrieved governors in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) met on Sunday to discuss steps towards removing Iyorchia Ayu, national chairman of the party. The newspaper says the federal government fined oil firms N127 trillion for gas flaring.

The Nation says the PDP board of trustees (BOT) may ask Ayu to resign over the crisis in the party. The newspaper reports that the federal government has asked the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to obey court judgement asking the union to suspend its strike.

Daily Trust reports that cases of abductions went down by 28 percent across the country in August 2022 when compared with July. The newspaper says floods have killed 37 persons and led to the displacement of 171,000 people.
