When Stephen Urueye lined up alongside his colleagues during the convocation ceremony at the University of Lagos on Tuesday, he probably had no idea that the end was near.

A serving doctor at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), the young man must have had the dream to save more lives but suspected robbers stabbed him to death right in front of the hospital at Idi Araba, Lagos, on Thursday night.

Urueye’s death happened at a time when the dust raised by the murder of Kolade Johnson is yet to settle.

Johnson was shot dead by a trigger-happy policeman at Onipetesi, near Ikeja, Lagos, on Sunday.

Early 2013 I was robbed at gun point along the same canal road opposite LUTH. One of the robbers pressed the cold metal of the gun against my cheeks while saying “shey u dey feel am??”

I have been a victim of their robbery. They cane last 3yrs to the hospital, attacked the mosque inside the school and took our belongings. It was a sad Day. We proceeded to the police post just at the gate. The police men slapped one of us. Very sad #JusticeForStephen

That a young doctor is attacked in front of his work place and killed by hoodlums is indeed painful . What is more painful is that these attacks happen over and over and nothing is done about it.
