Nigeria pummel Central African Republic 6-0 in U-17 women’s World Cup qualifiers

The Nigerian U-17 female national team defeated their Central African Republic counterparts 6-0 in the first leg of their second round World Cup qualifiers.

The match was played in the Reunification Stadium, Douala, Cameroon on Sunday.

The Flamingos scored four times in the first half to assert their superiority before adding two more goals in the second period.

Central African Republic hold international matches in Cameroon due to absence of a FIFA-approved stadium in their country.

Harmony Chidi and Shakirat Moshood led the girls with two goals apiece, with Prisca Nwachukwu and Etim Edidiong adding a goal apiece in each half.

Chidi opened the floodgates on five minutes but the Flamingos had to wait till the 39th-minute to double the lead.

Two more goals were added before halftime as Chidi completed her brace before Moshood scored her first on the stroke of halftime.

Edidiong made it five on 57 minute before Moshood got her brace on 72 minutes to complete the rout.

The CAR will visit the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Friday, February 9, for the return leg.

The Flamingos won bronze at the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India.
