Nigeria wins first medal at Commonwealth Games

Nigeria on Monday won its first medal of the Commonwealth Games in Australia.

Team Nigeria won silver after being defeated by India in the men’s table tennis final.

The Indian team dispatched Nigeria 3-0 to secure gold.

Nigeria qualified for the final of the table tennis event after defeating England 3-2 in the semi-final.

The country’s representatives in weightlifting failed to win a medal during their outing last week.

Monica Uweh and Favour Agboro came closest to winning medals but they both finished in fifth place.

Nigeria’s medal hopes now rests on the track and field events.

Yinka Ajayi qualified for the semi-final of the women’s 400m event on Sunday.

Similarly, Enoch Olaoluwa Adegoke and Seye Ogunlewe have made it through to the final of the men’s 100m.
