Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos state and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says the election is not about violence but a validation of democracy.

Sanwo-Olu addressed the press after voting at his polling unit in 006 Eiyekole, Adeniji Adele, Lagos Island.

The APC candidate said he was impressed by the turnout of voters and urged them to remain peaceful throughout the process.

“I’m happy with the turnout at this polling unit. I think it is a time for us as a people to understand that the process is not meant to be a process of violence,” Sanwo-Olu said.

“Election that leads to the democratic process is a validation of what democracy should be about. We are about peace, progress for all states and the country at large.

“We seek for a free, transparent and credible election. I want to ask all of voters should remain vigilant, if you see something say something. Any form of violence is not acceptable.”

Elected in 2019, Sanwo-Olu is seeking re-election, and he is facing stiff opposition from Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour, candidate of the Labour Party (LP), and Abdulazeez  Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The LP won Lagos state in the February 25 presidential election, the first time an opposition would win the state that has been the political stronghold of Bola Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu’s godfather.
