The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) says givers and receivers of cash transactions of any form at its centres are liable for prosecution.

The commission issued the warning in a public announcement signed by Aliyu Aziz, its director-general.

NIMC said all forms of cash transactions were prohibited in all its enrolment centres and partner outlets.

“All payments/financial transactions are to be made through the NIMC Remita platform only,” the circular reads.

“Should anyone request for a cash payment before service, please contact the anti-corruption and transparency unit of the commission directly by sending a mail to [email protected] or call +234 (09)- 134959433.”

The commission said services such as national identification number (NIN) enrolment, NIN verification before enrolment and national e-ID card issuance (first issuance) are free.

It added that the sum of N500 each is required for NIN slip reprint and modification of biodata (excluding the date of birth).

For modification of date of birth, citizens are required to pay the sum of N15,000.

It said that the replacement or renewal of the national e-ID Card would cost N5,000, but added that card printing services are currently on hold till further notice.

It also asked citizens to visit its website for the list of service providers licensed to provide NIMC services to the general public.

The commission emphasised that requests for possible modification of records relating to the biodata (date of birth, name, etc) of applicants on the previous enrolment can only be done at NIMC enrolment centres.

It said that all forms of data modifications can only be made in person and not by proxy and all processing fee payments are to be through the NIMC Remita platform.

It also notified citizens that local front-end partners (FEPs)/ vendors are not licensed to carry out modification services.

“Please be guided accordingly and do not give in to extortion,” the commission advised.
