Solomon Arase, the newly-confirmed inspector-general of police (IGP), says he is determined to dismantle police road blocks across the country and he has already dispatched a team to enforce the order.

He also said no Nigerian would suffer injustice by his inaction or action throughout his tenure in office, and assured police officers that their welfare would be one of his cardinal responsibilities.

Arase was speaking on Tuesday with state house correspondents shortly after his confirmation by the police council as substantive IGP.

“Their welfare will number one on ‎my cardinal responsibilities,” he said.

“You don’t motivate a workforce except their welfare is paramount. I’m going to ensure that their welfare is going to be put on the front burner.

“To Nigerians, I know that their expectations are high but I can assure them that no Nigerian will suffer any injustice by my inaction or action.”

On his recent directive on the dismantling of police roadblocks across the country, Arase said 16 teams had been constituted by the Force Headquarters to ensure strict compliance.

“We already have an enforcement policy in place and 16 teams have moved out across the length and breadth of this country to ensure there is strict compliance to that order,” he said.

After his appointment in acting capacity in August 2014, Suleiman Abba, the immediate-past IGP, also expressed determination removed police roadblocks, but they were back a few months after he made the announcement

We hope that the reemphasized determinationto dismantle police road blocks are effected to the letter because its very embarrassing and irresponsibly misnomer.

@IGP Please Nigerians would like to know if you are talking about the barricade or the men of the police off the road, sometimes you see the policemen on the road without the barricades and they will tell you the road is not blocked. please let hm tell us that neither the police nor the barricade should be removed totally

Road blocks dismantling is what every new IG comes with to win the support of Nigerians. After the first month they are back in various guises. In the civilised world do you need road blocks to check vehicle documents? It is when an infraction occurs that you are pulled aside to show your documents. But as long as there are financial benefits to road blocks they will not disappear.

That will be good if well enforced.
Just want him to do something about the persistent Road block along Ibadan-Iwo road. there is a regular road-bock close to iwo where mobile policemen extort money from helpless motorist everyday of the week.
