Isiaka Oluwa, a retired judge at the high court of Lagos, reputed to be the oldest judge in the state, is dead.

He was said to have died in the early hours of Saturday, at the age of 102.

An article published in March 2020 showed that the body of retired judges had paid him a visit at his Ilupeju residence in Lagos on the occasion of his 101st birthday.

Oluwa was born on June 23, 1918, in Cross River state. He attended Forcados Government School, Bonny, Rivers state; St Bartholomew’s School, Degema, still in Rivers; Government School, Sapele, Delta state; and King’s College, Lagos.

Oluwa also attended the School of Agriculture at Samaru-Zaria; University of London where he studied Law and Lincoln’s Inn, London, where he was called to the Bar in 1957.

The late judge worked as a lecturer at the University of Ibadan from 1949 to 1950. He began practising law after he returned to Nigeria from London and established Oluwa, Kotoye and Co.

He was appointed a high court judge on June 1, 1974, and retired on June 17, 1983.

He was the pro-chancellor of Lagos State University, Ojo, and was also the chairman of the association of Lagos indigenous retired judges.
