Over 100 cows killed as gunmen raid Taraba communities

Suspected bandits dressed in military uniform attacked communities in Abbare, Lau local government area of Taraba on Thursday, killing over 100 cows.

According to NAN, David Misal, police public relations officer (PPRO) in the state, made this known in Jalingo, the state capital on Friday.

He said the command had deployed more policemen in the area, adding that the divisional police officer (DPO) in charge of the area had also been directed to investigate the matter.

He said more information would be released to the public as soon as “clearer pictures” on the situation were received.

Speaking to Journalist, Muhammad Umar, a community leader of Abbare village, said the gunmen invaded the area around 1pm.

“In the process, the gunmen killed at least 100 cows and maimed several others,’” Umar said.

Umar said throughout the night, community members were transporting injured cows to sell to butchers in Jalingo, and Mayo-Belwa in neighbouring Adamawa.

He appealed to military authorities and other security agencies to investigate the alleged involvement of the military in the attacks.

The affected area has been experiencing frequent violence that has led to loss of lives and property.
