The Oyo state government has shut down Bodija market, citing security reasons.

The closure is said to have been caused by the sporadic shooting which took place on Thursday in the market and its environs.

Bodija, one of the biggest markets in Ibadan, is frequented daily by thousands from different parts of the state.

Adekunle Oladeji, chairman of Aare Laatosa local council development area (LCDA), said the closure is to prevent the loss of lives and property.

Oladeji said the closure will guard against the escalation of the violence in the market to other parts of the state.

He said security agencies have been informed about the situation in the market in order to maintain law and order.

He urged the people of the state to be law abiding, warning that anyone found wanting will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
