Rabiu Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano state, says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will win Saturday supplementary election in the state.

Kwankwaso spoke through Binta Spikin, his media aide.

“Sen Rabiu Kwankwaso hereby calls on the people of Kano, cutting across political divides, to conduct themselves peacefully during the oncoming re-run election while voting for the candidate of their choice,” Spikin said on behalf of the former governor.

“Kwankwaso believes in Kano and is concerned about the fate of its teeming youths, which informed his people-oriented projects and programmes when he was the governor of Kano.

“He called on the public to ignore all negative media articles attributed to him, especially those premised on throwing the state into chaos.

“The senator believes that in a free and fair election, PDP will win, as it had previously. Hence, a re-run will not in any way hamper the fortunes of Abba Kabir Yusuf (the PDP governorship candidate).”

INEC had declared the governorship election inconclusive. Bello Shehu, the returning officer, based the action on the margin between the two leading candidates and the cancelled votes in the election.

Abba Yusuf, candidate of the PDP had polled a total of 1,014,353 votes ahead of Abdullahi Ganduje, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who secured 953,522 votes, leaving a margin of 26,655 votes, ad a total of 100,873 votes were cancelled in the election.

The re-run elections will hold in 234 polling units in more than 88 registration wards of 30 local government areas in the state.

Earlier, Kwankwaso had said the rerun would determine INEC’s credibility.
