A keg of water now sells for N250 in some communities in the federal capital territory (FCT).

Residents of some FCT communities had resorted to fetching water from streams and rivers since the scarcity started in the past few weeks.

Residents living in Kubwa and the adjoining satellite towns of Bwari, Dede, Dutse, Kaigini, among others, had to patronise water hawkers or join long queues at public boreholes.

A resident in Kubwa who identified herself as Aisha described the situation as worrisome while calling on the relevant authorities to ensure that water was restored.

She said: “This is Kubwa and we come to this borehole every day and you have to wake up by 4am and queue because if you don’t come on time, you will not get water.

“It is already a week now and we don’t even know when the water will come because they did not even give us the assurance of when we are going to have water.

“In other places, there is no water and this is the only borehole that is serving us here, and those that cannot wait will go and buy from meiruwa(water hawkers) at the rate of N250.”

The FCT Water Board had last week appealed to residents to persevere pending when repair and maintenance work are carried out on the Usama Dam Treatment Plant.
