Plateau killings: APC governors visit Lalong, sue for peace

The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) has commiserated with Simon Lalong, governor of Plateau, over the recent killings in the state.

Twenty-two travellers en route Ondo state from Bauchi were killed on Saturday along Rukuba road in Jos North LGA of the state.

Atiku Bagudu, governor of Kebbi state and chairman of the forum, led a delegation including Mai Mala Buni and Muhammadu Baduru, his Yobe and Jigawa state counterparts respectively, on a condolence visit to Lalong on Monday.

Dimeji Bankole, the former speaker of the house of representatives, was also part of the delegation.

Bagudu described the incident as sad and tragic.

He appealed to the residents to eschew reprisals, saying peace is critical for the sustenance of progress in any society.

“We are here to commiserate with you, to offer you encouragement and to pray for all those innocent souls who lost their lives and their families and to encourage you to be steadfast in your search for peace,” Bagudu said.

He said irrespective of people’s status, the rule of law must be respected in order to have a peaceful society.

On his part, Lalong said his government would see to it that all the culprits are apprehended and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.

He thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for the deployment of more security personnel and surveillance helicopters in the state.

“We pray not to see this again in Plateau and in other parts of the country, ” Lalong said.
