Plateau suspends LG chairpersons, dissolves all commissions

The Plateau house of assembly has suspended the chairpersons of the 17 LGAs in the state over allegations of financial impropriety.

The house adopted the decision on Thursday during the plenary after a motion by Pirfa Tyem, a lawmaker representing Langtang north-north constituency.

The motion bothered on the allegation of financial impropriety levelled against the LG officials through a petition to the house by Caleb Mutfwang, the new governor of Plateau.

Abok Ayuba, speaker of the house of assembly, who announced the suspension after the motion was passed, said the council officials should hand over all government properties in their possession to the director of personnel management, while an investigation into the allegations against them starts.

Meanwhile, the governor has relieved the chief executives, chairmen and members of commissions, boards and parastatals, of their positions with immediate effect.

In a signed letter, Peter Wuyep, permanent secretary, on behalf of the secretary to the state government, on Thursday, said those affected were to hand over the affairs and properties including vehicles in their possession. 

“You are to hand over the affairs of the office and government properties including vehicles in your possession to the most senior Director in your organization,” Wuyep said.
