PLAYER RATING: How the Eagles fared against France

PLAYER RATING: How the Eagles fared against France

7 Vincent Enyeama

Like in the game against Argentina, he was the busier of the two goalkeepers, and was forced into lots of saves. Also, like in the previous, game error from set pieces cost him dear. He could have dealt better with Pogba’s header when he came out for the ball from a corner but could only parry for the Juve midfielder to head home. Still, he had an above-average performance.

7 Efe Ambrose

Towered up and down the right flank and caused the French some troubles in the first half. He was forced to stay back as the game wore on. He did quite well.

7 Juwon Oshaniwa

The French team made most of their moves from the flanks and he struggled from the quick-fitted Valbuena playing against him on France right-wing. He coped pretty well in the second half and had a good game.

7  Joseph Yobo

His 100th cap didn’t go as planned with the 2-0 loss and his unlucky own goal. He effectively marked the ineffectual France striker Giroud out of the match, and the Arsenal player was replaced in the second half.

7 Kenneth Omeruo

The Chelsea defender looked assured in the central of defence but struggled with the pace and movements of Benzema as France went in search of the first goal. The partnership with Yobo at the heart of the team’s defence may well have ended, but it was quite solid and the injured Godfrey Oboabona was not really missed.

7 Ogenyi Onazi

His absence was sorely missed when he was replaced after a bad tackle from Matuidi ended his involvement in the game. He provided energy and pace in midfield and the team played well when he was on the pitch.

7 John Obi Mikel

He initiated some of the team’s attacking moves.

6 Victor Moses

Was back in the team after missing the last two games. He looked sharp and fit, making good runs on the break early on. He tired out and his impact diminished as the game progressed.

6 Ahmed Musa

Couldn’t recreate the magic like in the game against Argentina and he disappeared in most time against France. It wasn’t because of lack of effort, because he was still able to make one or two runs that the French were able to snuff out. Perhaps the Ramadan fast affected him.

6 Osaze Odemwingie

Had a good shot saved by Lloris that was the closest the Super Eagles came to scoring. Made some fine runs in the first half when Nigeria dominated most part of the game.

6 Emmanuel Emenike

He didn’t have too many touches of the ball and struggled to make an impact. Quite an underwhelming performance.

Subs

5 Reuben Gabriel

Came on for Onazi at the time France were dominating the game, and he struggled to get up to match intensity.

Uche Nwofor

Can’t be rated because he was introduced for Moses after 89 minutes when the game was done and dusted for the French.
