Paul Pogba, Manchester United midfielder, has been left out of France’s squad for the UEFA Nations League games after testing positive for COVID-19.

Didier Deschamps, France national team coach, confirmed Pogba’s coronavirus status on Thursday.

He also replaced him with Rennes’ Eduardo Camavinga for the games against Sweden and Croatia.

“I had to make a last-minute change to this list, because Paul Pogba was planned to be in this list but unfortunately for him, he took a test (for COVID-19) yesterday which turned out to be positive today, so at the last minute he was replaced by Eduardo Camavinga,” the coach said while speaking at his press conference after the squad announcement.

The development means the 27-year-old will have to self-isolate for 14 days.

It also means Pogba will likely miss Manchester United pre-season games and could be unavailable for selection for the Red Devils’ Premier League opener against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on September 19.

United also issued a statement wishing their player quick recovery.

“Pogba has been replaced in the squad after testing positive for COVID-19. The midfielder will be unable to add to his 69 caps and 10 goals for his country in the games next month. Everybody at United wishes Paul a speedy recovery ahead of the new season,” the statement read.
