Police arrest ‘fake soldier’, 43 suspects in Plateau

The Plateau police command says it has arrested 44 suspects, including a “fake soldier” over various criminal acts.

Speaking on Friday at a press conference in Jos, the state capital, Steve Yabanet, commissioner of police in Plateau, said some of the suspects were arrested for various offences such as armed robbery and criminal conspiracy among others.

“Among these suspects is someone who is parading himself as a military personnel and for committing crimes, such as kidnapping, armed robbery, gun running, among others,” NAN quoted Yabanet as saying.

The police commissioner said the command had put different strategies in place to prevent crimes in the state.

He said all the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution after the conclusion of investigations.

The Lagos state police command also recently arrested a suspected fake soldier who had been declared wanted by the military.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police spokesperson, said the suspect was arrested in the Ijegun area of Lagos during a routine visibility patrol by the Ijegun police division.

He said the patrol team arrested the man in full military uniform, allegedly used for impersonation.
