The Borno police command says it has arrested one Adamu Ibrahim for allegedly killing Fatima, his wife, in Dikechiri, Bayan Gidan Dambe area of Maiduguri. 

In a statement issued on Friday, Sani Kamilu, police spokesperson in Borno, said officers also arrested one Bukar Wadiya in connection to the crime.

“On October 18, 2023, one Adamu Alhaji Ibrahim of Dikechiri Bayan Gidan Dambe area Maiduguri, went to Gwange Division, accompanied by one Bukar Wadiya, conveying the body of a woman whom he claimed to be his wife and sought for an emergency help from the police,” the statement reads.

“The husband, who claimed to be a staff member of a commercial bank in Maiduguri, came back from work at about 5:00 pm and found the deceased lying in a pool of her blood.”

Kamilu, an assistant superintendent of police, said preliminary investigation revealed that before the incident, the couple had some disputes over an alleged extramarital affair by the husband at their matrimonial home.

The police spokesperson said during a search of the house where the incident occurred, items including one short pestle, bag, rope, rug carpet stained with blood, knife, and Honda vehicle and a mucus-stained pillow were recovered.

Kamilu said there was no evidence of breakage or forceful entry into the house and only the husband has the key to the apartment.

He said that Ibrahim and Wadiya are prime suspects, adding that prosecution will follow when investigation is concluded.
