Police: How bandits attacked station, killed DPO, inspector in Zamfara

The Zamfara police command has confirmed the killing of Kazeem Raheem, the divisional police officer (DPO) in Maru LGA of Zamfara.

Rabi’u Umar, a police inspector attached to the division, was also said to have been killed in the attack.

Muhammad Shehu, the police spokesperson in the state, said bandits attacked the station in the earlier hours of Sunday.

“On 5th March, 2023 at about 0200hrs, bandits in large numbers, armed with sophisticated weapons attacked Maru Divisional Police Headquarters in Maru LGA with intent to distabilise the security architecture of the town in order to easily attack and abduct members of the community,” he said.

“However, the DPO and his team gallantly put up a strong resistance to repel the attackers.

“Unfortunately, the DPO and the above-named inspector lost their lives while protecting the public.”

Kolo Yusuf, the commissioner of police in Zamfara, was quoted as reassuring residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

According to the statement, the commissioner has deployed reinforcement to pursue the fleeing bandits with a view to apprehending and prosecuting them.
