The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have reacted to a video in which some officers were seen assaulting a man in the Oko Oba area of Agege, Lagos state.

In the video that appeared on social media, two police officers were seen kicking, beating and dragging a young man.

The altercation between the young man and the police officers allegedly started after the security operatives asked him to unlock his phone during a stop-and-search exercise.

However, the man reportedly refused to unlock his phone.

The officers were said to be from the Abattoir police station, Agege.

A Twitter user with the handle — @cashy0206 — posted videos of the incident on the microblogging platform.

“They don’t have any tangible reason all in the name of stop and search and no evidence and they changed it to bring your phone that’s where it started,” the Twitter user wrote.

Reacting to the video, Muyiwa Adejobi, force spokesperson, in a tweet, condemned the action while directing Benjamin Hundeyin, Lagos police public relations officer, to “fish” out the officers for investigation.

In July 2022, Adejobi said police officers did not have the right to check mobile phones except in situations where such gadgets have been marked as exhibits.
