The Oyo state police command has dismissed reports that Akeem Akintola, chairman of the state tipper, lorry and quarry park management system, was kidnapped.

There were reports that Akintola was abducted on Saturday by gunmen at his residence in the Ajiboye area of Omi Apata in Ibadan, Oyo state capital.

However, Adewale Osifeso, police public relations officer (PPRO) in Oyo, said Akintola was not kidnapped by gunmen, but was arrested by the police.

He said police operatives arrested Akintola over allegations of criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms.

“The duo was invited by intelligence operatives from force headquarters, Abuja who were on lawful duty in connection with their alleged involvement in criminal offences.

“The allegations include criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms.”
