The Anambra police command says it has raided and recovered nine improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and four walkie talkies from gunmen around Amiyi and Ochuche areas of the state.

In a statement on Wednesday, Tochukwu Ikenga, police public relations officer in the state, said the operation was carried out by the Anambra joint security force on Friday.

He explained that the insurgents, upon sighting the operatives, fled from their hideouts, noting that the recovered explosives were defused by the police bomb squad.

He added that Aderemi Adeoye, commissioner of police in the state, commended the military for its relentless support for the fight against criminality in the state.

Adeoye thanked other security agencies across the state for the synergy in the fight against insecurity “which is already yielding results”.

The commissioner warned cultists to desist from such acts, as the command would ensure perpetrators are found and brought to book.
