The Ondo state police command says Sunday Adelola, a soldier who allegedly raped a student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, Akoko, will be arraigned in court this week.

Femi Joseph, the command’s police public relations officer, said the victim is a 300-level student of the department of Religous and African Studies in the institution.

The incident took place at a military checkpoint along Ikare Akoko-Akungba Akoko road, Ondo, two weeks ago.

Joseph said the suspect will be charged to court this week.

“We are taking the suspect to court on Wednesday and if we don’t take him to court on Wednesday, we will certainly take him to court on Thursday,” he told journalists.

The spokesperson denied allegations that the army and police wanted to sweep the case under the carpet, adding that justice must be served.

Adelola had been dismissed by the authorities of the Nigeria army before he was handed over to the police for prosecution.
