Radio Now mourns Dokpesi, says his ‘passion for journalism touched lives’

The board of Koidi Radio Limited, owners of Radio Now 95.3FM, Lagos, has mourned the death of Raymond Dokpesi, founder of DAAR Communications

On Monday, the family of the late Dokpesi announced the death of the media mogul.

Tony Akiotu, group managing director of DAAR Communications, said Dokpesi had been ill for a few weeks and was on his way to full recovery but fell off his treadmill during a routine gym exercise.

In a statement on Monday, Muhtar Bakare, chairman of the board of Koidi Radio, described Dokpesi as a media pioneer, whose passion for journalism touched many lives.

“Chairman of the Board, Koidi Radio Limited, owners of Radio Now 95.3FM, Lagos, and the entire management and staff are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of high chief Raymond Dokpesi, chairman of DAAR communications,” the statement reads.

“The late media mogul was a pioneer of the first privately owned broadcast station in Nigeria. His contributions to the media industry will not be forgotten. His passion for journalism touched many lives and he will be missed.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and members of the broadcast industry. May his soul rest in peace.”
