Abiola Ajimobi, governor of Oyo state, says he is no longer interested in contesting for any political office in the future.

“I am not interested in running as vice-president or for any other post; the governor I have always wanted to be is what I am now,” he said on Tuesday while addressing some Muslim stakeholders in Ibadan.

“My prayer to God was that I want to be the first governor to be re-elected into office and God has answered that prayer.”

He thanked the people of the state for their contributions in ensuring he became governor.

“I am also and will always be grateful to the people of the state, especially the people of Oke-Ogun area for making my political ambition a reality,” he said.

Ajimobi once represented Oyo south senatorial district on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) as a one-term senator.

He contested and lost the 2007 governorship election in the state as candidate of the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP), re-contested and won the April 2011 governorship poll as candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

Ajimobi’s victory in the 2015 election made him the first incumbent to be re-elected for second term in Oyo state.
