Reps panel summons Emefiele, finance minister over PenCom probe

The house of representatives ad-hoc committee investigating the National Pension Commission (PenCom) has summoned heads of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), ministry of finance and civil service of the federation,.

In a later dated January 28, the panel requested the agencies to bring relevant documents regarding the ongoing probe to its next sitting scheduled for February 7.

The letter inviting Godwin Emefiele, CBN governor, and Zainab Ahmed, finance minister, was signed by Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, chairman of the committee.

The committee, set up by the house in December 2018, is expected to investigate the “unwholesome practices” by pension administrators in the country.

The panel also invited the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and all representatives of agencies and institutions of the governing board of PENCOM.

The committee, among other things, demanded for the net assets of the contributory funds, details of supervisors and regulations of pension funds administrators, their key instructions and performances.

It also requested for details regarding compliances and defaults, details of payment into the treasury single account and bank accounts operated by the commission.

When contacted, Agbonayinma confirmed that heads of the agencies and other major stakeholders have been invited to the investigative hearing.

“We are not leaving any part untouched as we are going to conduct a thorough investigative hearing that is water-tight,” he said.
