The house of representatives is set to resume sitting on Tuesday after over eight-week recess.

Akin Rotimi, spokesperson of the house, announced the development in a statement issued on Friday.

The lawmakers had embarked on their annual recess on July 27.

Before the house was adjourned, Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the house, appointed lawmakers to chair various standing committees of the green chamber.

Rotimi said the house has been “very prolific” since it was inaugurated in June, noting that 470 bills have passed the first reading.

He added that four bills have scaled the second reading while 175 motions have so far been considered.

“Despite the recess, the green chamber continued to function, as various ad-hoc committees continued to carry out their crucial mandates which have generated significant positive public interest,” the statement reads.

“Honourable Members also continued to carry out various constituency outreaches across the country.”

TASKS BEFORE THE HOUSE

Rotimi said upon resumption, the “key early developments” expected to be attended to by the lawmakers are the conclusion of the work of all ad hoc committees and the submission of their reports for the consideration of the house.

He said the final draft of the legislative agenda developed by the committee chaired by Julius Inhonvbere, leader of the house, will be considered and adopted by the lawmakers.

“The draft agenda was developed following extensive consultations with critical stakeholders,” he said.

Rotimi added that the membership of the standing committees would also be announced and fully constituted.
