Vice-President Kashim Shettima says anyone found culpable of the recent bombing in the Tundun Biri community in Igabi LGA of Kaduna, will be punished.

Shettima spoke on Thursday when he visited families of victims of the military air strikes taking treatment at  Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, Kaduna.

The vice-president was accompanied by Abbas Tajudeen, speaker of the house of representatives; Mohammed Badaru, minister of defence; and Abdullahi Ganduje, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Shettima toured the hospital wards, meeting with injured victims and their families. He provided words of comfort and reassured them of the government’s ongoing support,” Stanley Nkwocha, media aide to the vice-president wrote in a post on X.

On Sunday, many residents were killed with scores injured after air strikes were launched on the Tundun Biri community.

The villagers were reportedly commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad when the jet dropped the bomb that led to the deaths of several persons.

The Nigerian Army has accepted responsibility for the incident, stating that its troops were on a routine mission against terrorists when the “mistake” occurred.

Some reports have put the death toll from the incident at over 120.

WE’LL AVERT ANY FUTURE OCCURRENCE’

Speaking during the visit, Shettima said the federal government would put measures in place to avert any future occurrence of accidental bombings.

The vice-president said the injured victims would be taken care of under the Fulako initiative.

“All measures will be taken to ensure that future occurrences are averted,” he said.

“Most importantly, the government will go to the root of the issue and if anyone is found culpable, he will be punished accordingly.

“The government is fully committed towards eradicating banditry and kidnapping. The president was deeply touched by what happened.”
