As part of measures to effectively tackle the spread of Ebola virus, the government of Sierra Leone has prescribed a two-year jail term for citizens found to be deliberately hiding victims of the disease.

Since the outbreak of the epidemic, which has resulted in 374 deaths and 907 cases in the country, some families have reportedly hidden their loved ones infected by the disease for fear of stigmatization.

However, Frank Kargbo, the country’s attorney-general, announced the new measure on Friday

“A maximum of two years jail term will be imposed on anyone caught hiding somebody who is believed to be infected with the deadly Ebola disease,” he said.
