Six persons lost their lives during an early morning attack in Maiduguri, capital of Borno state on Friday.

Abdulkadir Ibrahim, spokesman of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), confirmed the attack, saying 17 persons sustained injuries in the incident.

PRNigeria, an agency that disseminates information for the government, said a suicide bomber carried out the attack.

“The explosion was carried out by a suspected lone suicide bomber whose two accomplices escaped, when some vigilant members of the community accosted them on their suspicious movements,” the agency said in a statement.

Borno has been the state most devastated by attacks from insurgents, most of them happening in Maiduguri.

President Muhammadu Buhari has given the military a deadline of December to end insurgency.

On Thursday, Anadolu, Turkish news agency, reported that the military has hired about 250 mercenaries from South Africa to help in its war against Boko Haram.
