SORTED: South-west and south-south swap positions as Buhari endorses zoning formula

SORTED: South-west and south-south swap positions as Buhari endorses zoning formula
March 04
08:51 2022

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the proposed zoning formula for the national offices of the All Progressives Congress (APC), TheCable can report.

The president approved of the zoning formula in a document he signed on March 1, which supersede the one he signed on February 25.

The position of national secretary, currently occupied by John James Akpan Udo-Edehe from the south-south, will now go to the south-west.

The south-south will now produce the national publicity secretary, previously zoned to the south-west.

The deputy national chairman, previously signed off to the north-west with Farouk Aliyu Adamu named as the consensus candidate, will now come from the north-east.

Ken Nnamani (pictured), former senate president, was named for the position of deputy national chairman (south) in the previous document but while the position will remain in the south-east, the preferred candidate in not named on the new list.

TheCable understands that Nnamani is still the preferred candidate for the position.

Adamu Abdullahi, former governor of Nasarawa state, is the consensus candidate for the national chairmanship which is zoned to the north-central.

He will not have opponents at the national elective convention of the party scheduled for March 26.

Adams Oshiomhole, former governor of Edo, was picked as APC national chairman in 2018 under similar circumstances. He was unchallenged.

The ruling party’s constitution provides for consensus candidates.
