Tambuwal requests ‘more light’ on alleged abduction of teenager

Aminu Tambuwal, governor of Sokoto state, says the alleged abduction of a teenage girl from Benue to Sokoto state, cannot be confirmed, and he has called for more information from those making the allegations.

In a statement by Imam Imam, Tambuwal’s special assistant on media and publicity, the state said no such case has been discovered, making a public plea to the family of the alleged to give more details.

“On Wednesday 02-03-16, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal directed the state Human Rights Commission to undertake a thorough investigation into the allegations and report same to the government,” the statement read.

“In interim, the Human Rights Commission was asked to present an interim report and update the public with all information as it becomes available.

“In the first 24hrs, the State Human Rights Commission has contacted the Sultanate Council and the State Police Command for a briefing.

“The State Human Rights Commission has also spoken to the State Hisbah Commission, as well as the person whose phone number was given in the initial allegation made online.”

Imam said that “despite the efforts, however, the State Human Rights Commission has been unable to contact the family of Patience Paul or anyone who will shed more light on the allegations”.

“The State Human Rights Commission has now opened a public plea urging Ms Paul’s family or representatives to contact it for a detailed briefing,” he said.
