The Boko Haram sect has denied calling for a truce, saying it will never surrender to the military.

In a video that went viral last week, Abubakar Shekau, leader of the sect, was reported to have asked his followers to sheathe their swords, surrender and embrace peace.

However, the defence headquarters (DHQ) warned the public not to be deceived by the video, saying the military would continue with its operations against insurgents in spite of the purported remorse.

“This is my desire: that whoever sees this will hear nothing but greetings between me and you. Only Allah knows the rest, as you believed (and) as you submitted. For me the end has come,” he had said in the seven-minute video.

But in a new video released on Friday, the group took an entirely different turn.

“This war between us will not stop. You should know that there is no truce,” he said.

“There is no negotiation; there is no surrender. This war between us will not stop.”

Shekau, whose whereabouts is unknown, has formed the habit of using footage to pass his message across.

He is among 100 members of the sect, which the Nigerian army declared wanted in October.
