Cote d’Ivoire midfield star, Yaya Toure, believes the Elephant can finally live up to their potential by winning the Orange Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) this year for the first time since 1992.
With the array of players in the team, the Elephants also wear the toga of favourites any time the AFCON is played but they always fail to nick the trophy.
This time though, Toure is confident his side can go all the way to the final and win the cup.
“We have been chasing this trophy for a few years now, and we’ve not got it,” he told Goal.
“This year it’s time again to try to do it and I hope that at long last we have it in us.
“We can do it. I am fighting for it.”
Their quest for the title begins against Guinea on Tuesday and hopefully they will play four more games that will land them in the final. The quality of the pitches, though, is a major concern for the Manchester City player.
“It’s not easy,” Toure said.
“Most of the players play in Europe on good pitches. In Africa sometimes it’s totally different.”
