Troops ‘kill 9 ISWAP’ fighters, rescue ‘85 kidnapped victims’ in Borno

Troops of 7 Division and Sector 1 of Operation Hadin Kai, have reportedly killed six fighters of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP), in Borno. 

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the terrorists were killed on Thursday in their enclaves in Gime and Muzuri villages of the state. 

The publication added that 78 kidnap victims — comprising 30 women and 48 children — were rescued during the operation. 

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the troops recovered some AK-47 rifles and 3 Dane guns.

However, a vehicle conveying the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) was involved in an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion at Gulwa while returning from the operation.

The publication said the explosion led to the death of two commanders of the group while some were injured.

In a similar development, the troops of 112 Task Force Battalion, 7 Division and Sector 1 of Operation Hadin Kai have killed three terrorists while trying to assault farmers in Mafa LGA of the Borno. 

Zagazola Makama gathered that the troops ambushed and killed the three terrorists at Manawaji axis on Tuesday. 

The troops also rescued seven kidnapped victims from the ISWAP’s captivity. 

An AK-47 rifle, 2 AK-47 rifle magazines, one fabricated pyrotechnic, and 2 motorcycles were reportedly recovered.
