Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have reportedly rescued four firewood truck drivers kidnapped by suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

TheCable had reported how the drivers, who were conveying farm workers, were ambushed by terrorists last Saturday.

According to reports, the terrorists approached the drivers on the pretext of requiring their services to convey their members to a nearby village.

Two of the gunmen would later inform the labourers that the drivers had been kidnapped and wouldn’t be released until each of them paid a ransom of N250,000.

However, sources in the military told Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, that after  receiving a distress call, troops in Mafa stormed  Gullo village in search of the kidnapped victims on Thursday.

The sources said the terrorists abandoned the kidnapped truck drivers and fled, as the troops bore down on them.

One of the sources told the publication that the troops rescued the four kidnapped victims and recovered their vehicles.
