Two persons have been kidnapped during an attack by gunmen on Shabewa village in Dukku LGA of Gombe state.

Confirming the attack in a statement on Monday, Mahid Abubakar, police spokesperson in the state, said the gunmen invaded the community at about 2 am on Sunday.

Abubakar said the gunmen invaded the residence of one Umar Sambo and abducted one of his wives and brother.

“Contrary to the report going viral on social media outlets that many people were kidnapped at Shabewa village, the facts of the case are that on 08/10/2023 at about 0255hrs, suspected kidnappers invaded the residence of one Umar Sambo ‘m’ of Shabewa ward Dukku in Dukku LGA with guns and other dangerous weapons,” the statement reads.

“They asked his first wife for his whereabouts, fortunately, he did not sleep in her room and the man was alerted and escaped into the bush before the kidnappers entered the second wife’s room.

“But after searching all rooms without finding him, they kidnapped one of his wives, namely Amina Usman Aliyu,  and his brother, Mustapha Sambo ‘m’ of the same address.”

Abubakar urged residents to remain calm, adding that Oqua Etim, police commissioner in the state, has directed operatives to partner with vigilantes and hunters to ensure the rescue of the kidnapped victims.
