Two missing, three rescued in Adamawa boat accident

Two people are missing while three other persons have been rescued in a boat accident that occured in Gamadio LGA of Adamawa state on Monday.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed the development on Tuesday.

Ladan Ayuba, NEMA head of operations in Yola, led his ERT team alongside Kaletapwa Farauta, deputy governor of the state, for an on-the-spot assessment to determine the extent of casualties.

Christopher Sofore, chairman of the LGA, briefed the deputy governor about the incident, adding that search and rescue is ongoing to recover the bodies of the victims.

“Due to time constraints, the chairman advised that the assessment should be postponed until tomorrow,” NEMA said.

“The Deputy Governor then constituted a team comprises of NEMA, ADSEMA, Police, DSS, and Fire Service that will go for the assessment/ search and rescue operations.”

Farauta advised all relevant agencies to procure life jackets and enforce their use to prevent the loss of lives.

In September, 15 people were killed in a boat mishap that occured in Njuwe Lake in Yola south LGA of the state.

In November, about ten persons were killed in another boat mishap that occurred in Shiroro LGA of Niger state.
